Assessments

We conduct comprehensive psycho-educational assessments for children and adolescents, who are experiencing difficulties in their learning and/or have concerns with their academic progress. An assessment can also be requested for the purposes of diagnosing a Specific Learning Disorder with impairment in reading and /or written expression and/or numeracy.

What does a psycho-educational assessment involve?

An initial parent consultation is necessary to gather background information of the child and explore parental concerns.

A comprehensive assessment typically involves a cognitive assessment and a functional assessment that examines your child’s reasoning abilities and academic skills. It will also include an assessment of underlying processing skills that contribute to academic learning. Other areas may be investigated depending on your concerns and/or difficulties that your child faces.

Undergoing an assessment can help to identify your child’s learning strengths and weaknesses, and the impact this has on their performance in the classroom.

A report is provided approximately three weeks after the assessment, and it will include strategies and recommendations to support your child at home and in the classroom.
